The administration, faculty, and staff of Hampton Bays High School are proud to introduce Marcus Shams as the Salutatorian of the Class of 2010. Marcus has earned a weighted average of 104.33 through years of hard work in an extremely competitive course of study. During his high school career, Marcus has taken Advanced Placement United States History, Physics, Calculus AB-BC, Biology, and English Literature.
   
Cocurricular activity, community service, and athletics have played a significant role in Marcus’ life over the past four years. He was the captain of the varsity track team, a member of the National Honor Society, math team, and varsity club. As a junior he served as the Hampton Bays representative to Boys State.
   
This past year Marcus received recognition as an Eagle Scout. In order to achieve this honor, he restored a pond and walkway at the Deep Wells Historical Mansion in St. James. Additionally, he served as a peer tutor helping younger students that struggle with academics, and has participated in numerous charity walks to fund research for cancer and asthma.
   
Marcus will attend Northern Arizona University in the fall in preparation for his application to medical school. He will be attending the honors college and is the recipient of a presidential scholarship.
