The administration, faculty, and staff of Hampton Bays High School are proud to introduce Maraya Ferreira as the Valedictorian of the Class of 2010. Throughout her high school career, Maraya has demonstrated exceptional character and commitment to academic success. She has earned a weighted average of 106.3 in a rigorous course of study including Advanced Placement Physics, United States History, Calculus AB-BC, and English Literature.

Cocurriculur activity, athletics, and community service have played a large role in Maraya’s life over the past four years. She has participated in varsity track and cross-country since the ninth grade. During her junior year, Maraya worked with her peers to establish a Bible discussion group at Hampton Bays High School, and dedicated her time to the publication of the literary magazine Abraxas.

As a member of the National Honor Society, Maraya served as a peer tutor and volunteered her time working with ESL students to improve their essay writing skills. During the winter months, she dedicated her time to Maureen’s Haven, a homeless outreach program, preparing meals. In addition, she runs a summer program for children at the Hampton Bays Assembly of God Church.
Maraya plans to major in physical education and will be attending SUNY Cortland in the fall.
