Many years of an impressive and outstanding commitment to academics have paid off for Hampton Bays High School senior Skye McMorris, who has been named the Class of 2020 valedictorian.
McMorris has had numerous accomplishments throughout her high school career. Along with being named an AP Scholar and National Merit Commended Student, she earned an All-County Academic award for volleyball, has been named a regional winner in the VFW Voice of Democracy writing contest for the past two years, and earned the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award. In addition, she is a member of her school’s Key Club, jazz band, Future Business Leaders of America club, Interact Club, Science Olympiad team and varsity volleyball team. She also participates in her school’s theater program.
As a student in the school’s Science Research program for the past four years, McMorris has decided to continue on that track by majoring in biochemistry in college, with the goal of joining a research lab and studying genetic disorders.
To underclassmen, she offered the following advice for success: “Work as hard as possible and be passionate about the work that you are doing.”
