Wednesday, September 8 marked the first day of the 2010-2011 school year. It was a day of excitement for all Hampton Bays students, especially for the younger kids at the elementary school.
There were mostly smiles, a few tears, and plenty of pictures and videos taken as the children arrived on campus. Some arrived on foot, others by car and several took the bus. Regardless of their transportation, the kids were ready to learn as they rushed into the halls of the Hampton Bays Elementary School.
Getting the kindergarteners acclimated took top priority this morning as drivers and teachers assisted children off the school buses and into their classrooms. Students from first through fourth grade congregated in front of the school, grouped off by their grade with signs.
Overall, the first-day process went smoothly and the children were gathered inside and ready to start a new school year by the time of the first bell.
“This is the day they get everything down,” one of the school crossing guards remarked as the first buses rolled into the parking lot. “In a few days, it will be old hat.”
