Painting Sound

Hampton Bays Middle School students were introduced to the art of Soundpainting during a special presentation by Katie Down, an artist-in-residence at the Watermill Center.
During the workshop, students learned how gestural language can be used by a conductor to communicate with musicians, dancers and actors in real time during a performance. The students engaged in their learning by trying out some of the composing sign language originally created by New York composer Walter Thompson.
