The 2010 “Battle of the Books” Hampton Bays Team was recognized for achievement during the Hampton Bays Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, September 14. Over the summertime break, the team participated in a Suffolk County Library-sponsored reading contest and earned high honors for its efforts.

The team, which consisted of ninth grader Daniella Greene, eighth graders Emma Harris, Alex Peterson and Olivia Terry, and seventh graders Katarina Ogris and Robert Scott, won-first place honors during an afternoon session of competition and third-place overall out of 36 Suffolk County competing teams, according to co-leader/coach and Hampton Bays Public Library youth librarian Stephen T. Burg. “We are so proud of the how hard the team worked and how well they did,” Mr. Burg said.

Hampton Bays Middle School Principal Dennis Schug praised the team and coaches. “It was great to see challenging programs offered through our local library that are geared toward keeping our kids engaged, particularly during the summer months,” he said. “It’s equally rewarding to see our middle school students rising to the challenge and meeting success.”
