Students at Hampton Bays Middle School have undertaken an ongoing “Brown Bag Lunch” community service project to provide lunches for the local needy. The students, who got started stuffing lunch bags on Wednesday, November 10, will meet after school a few times a month to get lunch bags ready for distribution at Maureen’s Haven, a local homeless outreach program.

Students involved with the project include Lisa Marie Kling, Alex Maitland-Ward, Jordan King, Rebecca Harris, Kara Rosante, Alex Peterson, Alex Papajohn, Griffin Lohr, Mackenzie Engeldrum, Emma Harris, Meghan Harris, Nikki Nolan, Alyssa Ortiz, Taylor Dunn, Sean Deery, Cristina Torres, Rachel Montgomery, Adam Dean, Giulia Leite, Jack Cooper, Josh Alvarino, Phillip Wicklund, Samantha Pace and Erin Link.

Items collected for the bags, which were decorated by fifth and sixth grade students and stuffed by seventh and eighth-grade students, include water, chips, granola bars, napkins, candy and apples. Sandwiches will be placed in the bags on site at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Hampton Bays before they are handed out to the needy, according to PTO Board member Rowena Maitland-Ward.
