At approximately 11:00 a.m. this morning, a fire alarm was tripped at the Hampton Bays Middle School. The cause was a faulty light in a back room of the Nurse’s Office. In accordance with the District’s Safety and Crisis Response Plan, students were immediately evacuated and relocated to Hampton Bays Elementary School with the assistance of teachers and staff, members of our School Emergency Response Team, and district administration.

After inspection of the malfunctioned light fixture, the Hampton Bays Fire Department and Southampton Town Fire Marshal gave the all-clear and students began returning to the building at approximately 11:10 a.m. Our Maintenance Team is addressing the malfunctioned equipment and making the necessary repairs.

The health and safety of students and staff is the top priority of the Hampton Bays Public Schools and we appreciate your continued support.
