Three students, one from the elementary school, one from the middle school and one from the high school, received December “Student of the Month” honors during the Hampton Bays School Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, January 11.

First grader Jordyn Meyers, eighth grader Samantha Strand and senior Jessica Bautista each received a plaque and words of praise from their respective principals.

Jordyn is an outstanding person in and out of the classroom, according to Elementary School Principal Marc Meyer, who said that she is a joy to all who come in contact with her. Jordyn’s favorite things include art class, soccer and Derek Jeter. She wants to grow up and be a teacher like her dad, Mr. Meyer said.

Samantha is a “stellar student” who likes to connect with and mentor younger students, Middle School Principal Dennis Schug said. She has been a competitive dancer since she was four years old and particularly likes to participate in her dance hip hop club. Mr. Schug reported that Samantha wants to be a social studies teacher after college.

Jessica is an exceptional student who excels in all her endeavors, High School Principal Chris Richardt reported. She is active in the Key Club, SADD and track, but really stands out as a person who is always kind to others. Mr. Richardt added that Jessica bakes cupcakes for her first-period classmates on their birthdays.
