Three February Students of the Month – one from each school in the Hampton Bays School District – were recognized during the March 11 Board of Education meeting.

Fourth-grader Logan Grismer, eighth-grader Meghan Long and junior Jean Louise Catena each received a plaque and words of commendation from their respective principals.

Elementary School Principal Marc Meyer has known Logan since he was a baby. His grandmother, who used to work for the district, would bring him in with her on occasion. “Logan really shined this year,” Mr. Meyer said, adding that he deserved to be recognized for his hard work and dedication to learning. Logan counts reading and playing sports as his favorite activities. He plans on attending the Naval Academy and becoming a naval officer after graduating.

Meghan is an outstanding student and very busy young lady, according to Middle School Principal Dennis Schug. She runs cross-country and track, is a member of the student council and is a dedicated musician, vocalist and thespian. Always one to strive for excellence, Meghan plans on attending New York University after she graduates.

Jean Louise, affectionately known as “Wheezer,” is one of the most dependable, reliable and responsible students, said High School Principal Christopher Richardt. “She’s a model of good character and conduct,” he said, adding that he is looking forward to attending a leadership conference with her in Huntington in March. The varsity volleyball player is still weighing her college choices.
