Three March Students of the Month – one from each school in the Hampton Bays School District – were recognized during the April 8 Board of Education meeting.

Third-grader Carly Dunn, seventh-grader Molly Fargo and senior Ana Figueroa were recognized for their leadership. Each received a plaque and words of commendation from their respective principals.

Elementary School Principal Marc Meyer boasted that Carly was an exemplary student who is beloved by her classmates, teachers and team members. “She spent a half hour talking and I didn’t have to say a word,” he said. “But the amazing part is that she never once talked about herself; instead she spoke in glowing terms of everyone else. That’s remarkable.” Carly wants to go to school to become a teacher, Mr. Meyer added. Her dream is to return to Hampton Bays to teach third grade.

Middle School Principal Dennis Schug told the school board that Molly, a new student this year, has already made her mark. A born leader, she is a member of SADD and also plays tennis, basketball, volleyball and softball. In class, math, science and social studies are her favorite subjects. She hopes to go to Harvard and eventually become a brain surgeon.

High School Principal Christopher Richardt praised Ana for her extraordinary scholastic accomplishments. He said that Ana, who began at Hampton Bays in the ESL program, earned a 97 as her lowest grade of the year. She’s also an animal lover, tutor and dedicated volunteer. The Big Brothers/Big Sisters scholarship winner is planning to attend veterinary school after graduation.
