The people of Hampton Bays showed their considerable support for the Hampton Bays School District on May 20 by voting a 78-percent approval of the $48.2 million budget. The budget passed by a vote of 807 to 227.

“That’s probably our biggest margin ever,” said Board President Chris Garvey after the final vote count on Tuesday night at Hampton Bays Middle School. “Thanks to the great administration, staff and all school personnel, and for our community’s continued confidence as we continue to improve our district.”

Also up for vote this year was a sole open school board seat, for which incumbent Dot Capuano ran unopposed. She received 910 votes.

District Superintendent Lars Clemensen was buoyed by the overwhelming vote of confidence.

“Tonight’s vote is a signal from our community that the Hampton Bays Public Schools continue to head in the right direction,” he said. “We take that charge seriously and will work very hard to make sure every child continues to get an excellent education in our town.”
