Senior Alexandra Peterson has been named a 2015 National Merit Semifinalist, ranking her as one of 16,000 students on the 60th annual National Merit Scholarship Program list, which was released Sept. 10.

Having qualified because of her high PSAT score, Alexandra now has the opportunity to compete for one of 7,600 National Merit scholarships, which will be offered in the spring of 2015.

In addition to being active in the school’s theater program, Key Club, Show Choir and mock trial team, Alexandra also earned a top score of 5 on all five of her AP exams last May.

“This is very exciting,” she said upon learning of the distinction.

The senior is currently working on an Intel Science entry on lone star ticks and allergic reactions. She hopes to study biology at Duke University next fall, with the intent of becoming a medical researcher.
