Three students, one from the elementary school, one from the middle school and one from the high school, received March “Student of the Month” honors during the Hampton Bays School Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, May 3.

Second grader Katerina Reich, sixth grader Elvis Rojas and junior Kala Lindtvit each received a plaque and words of praise from their respective principals.

Katerina was nominated by both her second grade teacher, Ms. Martino and her music teacher, Mr. Pilero. Mr. Meyer praised Katerina for being “such a talented and well-rounded student,” he added that she was celebrating two big milestones--her birthday on Tuesday and her upcoming holy communion on the weekend. Katerina, who is a Brownie, hopes to be a fashion designer, model, or veterinarian, Mr. Meyer reported.

Elvis “gives outstanding effort every day,” Mr. Schug said. His favorite subject is math, and he is particularly adept at cross multiplying. Elvis is also a mid-fielder on his soccer team and hopes to attend Stanford and play soccer there before going on to become a lawyer, according to Mr. Schug, who added that the student’s motto is “never say never.”

Kala, an honor roll student, has an impressive list of extracurricular activities under her belt, Mr. Richardt reported. Among them: working in the school store since the eighth grade, creating homecoming floats, and participating in the HOPE Project, SADD and the Be The Change groups. She plans on becoming a special education teacher, supporting social studies, according to Mr. Richardt.
