Before her family, peers and district administrators, high school senior Alexis Fotopoulos penned her name to a National Letter of Intent with Adelphi University at a signing ceremony on Nov. 12.

“Adelphi was my first choice,” said Alexis. “I love the location, the style of basketball and everything about the school.”

Alexis, who will join the Division II basketball team at the university next fall, has been playing basketball since kindergarten. She has been a member of the varsity basketball team since the seventh grade, has scored more than 1,000 points in her varsity career, and was a starter on two Section XI Class B Championship teams. Additionally, she has participated in the Elks Club’s Foul Shooting Competition and competed on several youth league teams.

When she isn’t on the basketball court, Alexis can be found on the volleyball court or working with her fellow students in student council and the Future Business Leaders of America club.

“Alexis is a tremendous role model and we are very proud of her,” said Superintendent of Schools Lars Clemensen.
