High school marine science students recently took their skills into the field to study Fire Island’s vast ecosystem.

The students traveled to Fire Island’s Sunken Forest, where they learned about the maritime region’s distinctive vegetation through observation, note-taking and sketching. They also embarked on a hunt for mole crabs and volunteered to clean up any trash along the shoreline.
