September Students of the Month were recognized during the Hampton Bays Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, October 11.

Three students, one from each school in the district, received plaques and words of commendations from their respective principals during the meeting. Fourth grader Marissa Kennedy, fifth grader Schuyler Dorchak and junior Brandon White were each recognized for their achievements.

Marissa was nominated for Student of the Month by her teacher, Denise DeRosa. According to Hampton Bays Elementary School Principal Marc Meyer, Marissa is an outstanding student and writer who takes pride in her work. She is also very busy with extracurricular activities, including tennis, bike riding and gardening. When Marissa grows up, she wants to be either a teacher or biologist, Mr. Meyer said.

According to Hampton Bays Middle School Principal Dennis Schug, Schuyler is a special kid who loves the freedom of middle school life, especially decorating her locker and switching classes. She loves reading, writing and performing. Schuyler’s long-term goals include either studying dance at Juilliard or law at Georgetown, Mr. Schug said.

Brandon is a truly outstanding musical talent, Hampton Bays High School Principal Chris Richardt reported, adding that the junior plays seven different instruments and will be representing the school at the All-State Symphonic Orchestra in December. Brandon is also on the cross country team. He plans on attending the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia after graduating, Mr. Richardt said.
