The entire student body and staff at Hampton Bays Elementary School participated in “Anti-Bullying Week” from October 17-21, which was sponsored by the school’s speech and occupational therapy departments, according to occupational therapist Denise Ferrari. The week’s activities included lessons about bullying as well as a poster contest, which was won by third grader Emel Barry, a student in Richard Berlin’s class.

Emel was chosen as the winner for her creative approach to the contest, which included designing a poster and writing a short story. Ms. Ferrari noted that she was the only student to add a written component to her poster entry. Emel’s penmanship, spelling and grammatical skills were impeccable, she added.

The third grader was awarded a prize basket to share with her whole class. Basket goodies included candy, pencils, stickers, bouncy balls and an activity pad. To culminate the week, the students were shown an Anti-Bullying video created by Jonathan DellaSparanza at the Citizen of the Month Assembly.
