Chefs-in-Training Serve Up Lunch

High school culinary students put their skills to the test on May 5 as they prepared, cooked and served a healthy lunch to students in Hampton Bays Elementary School.  

During their lunch periods, the young diners feasted on grilled teriyaki chicken on a whole wheat bun, served with Tidewater coleslaw, baked beans, corn on the cob and, for dessert, apple crisp.  

The event provided hands-on opportunities for the chefs-in-training to deploy their newfound knowledge of such topics as menu development, nutrition, portion size, sanitation, safe serving and other culinary fundamentals.   

The high school culinary program has been implemented for the past two years and is part of the Hampton Bays School District’s college and career offerings.
