With a fall breeze in the air, elementary school kindergarten teacher Mary Beth Motz transformed a pumpkin carving activity into science and English language arts lessons.

Before carving their pumpkins on Oct. 14, students learned about the life cycle of the gourds and compared their heights and weights. They also learned new vocabulary to describe their pumpkins. The lesson was coupled with a field trip to Hank’s Pumpkintown in Water Mill.
