Second-graders at Hampton Bays Elementary School marked the season with a variety of projects that coupled art with curriculum. All finished works were displayed in the school’s hallways.

Students in Lori Foster’s class got “wrapped up in reading” by making miniature mummies out of paper and tacking them to essays they had written about their favorite books.

In a similar project, Erin McDermott’s second-graders researched bats and penned paragraphs about the nocturnal mammals. Along with the bat facts, they wrote bat haikus and crafted paper bats to accompany their work.
