The Hampton Bays Middle School Class of 2014 recently traveled to Washington, DC, for the second annual 8th grade class trip. While there, the class met with their Congressman, Tim Bishop, before taking a tour of the Capitol. In addition, what the students have been learning in Social Studies came off the pages of the textbook when they visited the Lincoln, World War II, Vietnam, Jefferson, and Korean War Memorials. Students particularly loved the Smithsonian Institutes, visiting Ford’s Theater, and laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
To commemorate this memorable experience, the Class of 2014 has chosen as its farewell gift to the Middle School three framed copies of the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and the Bill of Rights to be hung for all students to enjoy.
These documents were framed by art teacher Kathy Dayton. Thanks to the eighth graders for their participation on this great trip and to our 8th grade class advisors for coordinating the trip, Mrs. Beach and Ms. Dossiano.
