January Students of the Month Recognized

Three students in the Hampton Bays School District — one from the elementary school, one from the middle school and one from the high school — were nominated for Student of the Month honors for the month of January. Kindergartner Noah Hafemeister, seventh-grader Sophia Sosa and junior Christen Bellucci were on hand to receive plaques and words of commendations from their respective principals during the Hampton Bays Board of Education meeting at the high school library on Feb. 12.

Noah was nominated for Student of the Month by his teacher Linda Schmidt because he is a fun, smart, sweet, happy and helpful student, according to Hampton Bays Elementary School Principal Marc Meyer. Noah told Mr. Meyer, who said that he is proud of this young student, that he wants to be a singer when he grows up.

Sophia is consistently recognized as a leader and team player by both her teachers and her fellow students, according to Hampton Bays Middle School Principal Dennis Schug. The avid reader excels in public speaking and is best known for building incredibly strong arguments with supportive evidence, he said. The ACC Team member plans to attend Stanford University to study law.

Christen is a highly competitive student, an outstanding young lady and a true leader, according to Hampton Bays High School Principal Christopher Richardt. An academic powerhouse, she is currently taking AP Physics, English Literature, U.S. History and Pre-calculus, Mr. Richardt reported. Christen is also a member of the varsity volleyball team and recently attended the National Association of Student Councils’ LEAD conference in Chicago.
