The Members of the Board of Education

Doug Oakland, President    Email

Doug Oakland has been contributing to the Hampton Bays schools and community in numerous ways prior to his recent election to the Board of Education. In addition to coaching Little League, Mr. Oakland has volunteered for years as a PTA and PTSA member, and is a founding member of the Hampton Bays Education Foundation, an organization that raises monies to provide enhancements to the school programs without dependence upon taxpayers. He is currently in his second-term of office.

As a local businessman since 1992, Mr. Oakland has a keen awareness of the need to develop and maintain strong schools within the resources of the community. In addition to his school activities, Doug is also a member of the Barrier Beach Association and a past president and member of the Shinnecock Marlin and Tuna Club.

He and his wife, Stephanie, have four children and are frequently found at school and town events, or on duty at Oakland¹s Restaurant.


Christopher Garvey, Vice President    Email

Christopher Garvey returns to the Board of Education as a trustee after previously serving two terms for a total of six years on the Board. During his past tenure on the Board, Mr. Garvey was Vice President for two years.

Mr. Garvey currently serves on the BOCES board, where he has been a member since 2003. He attended Eisenhower College in Seneca Falls, New York and earned a BA in Arts and Sciences. He is also the owner of Garvey Marine Corp., a marine insurance agency that he started in 1999.

Married for more than 28 years to his wife, Margaret, the Garveys have had four children graduate from the district with honors. Daughter Jennifer is a graduate of SUNY Geneseo and the Newhouse School at Syracuse University and the remaining Garvey children, Catherine, Daniel and Megan, all graduated from James Madison University in Virginia.


Richard Joslin, Trustee    Email

Richard Joslin is a life-long resident of Hampton Bays and graduated from Hampton Bays High School in 1970. Mr. Joslin received his Bachelor’s degree in education from the State University of New York at Oneonta. A retired educator, he taught in the Hampton Bays Elementary and Middle Schools for 34 years and was an adjunct professor at Long Island University, Southampton Campus.

Mr. Joslin and his wife, Debbi, a second-grade teacher in Hampton Bays, have three children, Tarrin, Stefani, and Taite.


Warren Booth, Trustee    Email

Warren Booth, a Hampton Bays resident for more than 40 years, is graduate of Hampton Bays High School Class of 1982, Mr. Booth served in the Marine Corps for four years and has been an employee of the Hampton Bays Water District for more than 12 years. He is an active member of the Hampton Bays Booster Club, coached Little League Softball, Youth League Basketball, and has been a volunteer member of the Hampton Bays Fire Department for 23 years, serving as Sergeant at Arms, Recording Secretary, Lieutenant Captain, and Safety Officer.

Warren and his wife, Stacie, have two children, Serina and Cameron.

Dorothy Capuano, Trustee    Email

Dorothy Capuano has been a resident of Hampton Bays for the past 39 years.  She is a hotel general manager and a local business owner.  Dot received her Bachelor’s Degree from Southampton College.  As an active member of the business and service community, Dot is on the Board of Directors of the Hampton Bays Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Council as well as the Long Island Convention and Visitor Bureau.  Dot is a member of the American Business Association, the Hampton Bays Booster Club and the Hampton Bays Parent Teacher Student Association. 

Dot and her husband John have three children.  Amanda currently attends Suffolk Community College, and John and Thomas both attend Hampton Bays High School.
