Members of the Hampton Bays Girls High School Winter Track Team pulled together and collected toys for the local needy during their “Stuff-A-Bus” event on Saturday, December 11.  The girls, led by coach Tabitha Dubois, organized and ran the very successful “Stuff-A-Bus” event, which was held in the high school parking lot from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., to benefit the Church of St. Rosalie’s charities and Hampton Bays Angels.

The team collected toys for nearly two weeks before the event was even held. Plus, dozens of cars stopped by to donate toys during the parking lot fundraiser on Saturday. According to track team members, many people drove by, noticed the event, and then went out to buy toys to donate.

“We filled the bus!” Ms. Dubois said proudly.

All 21 track team members pitched in to collect toys and work shifts throughout the day on Saturday, according to Ms. Dubois. And the team captains—junior Katie Dubowski and seniors Priscilla Quiroz and Valeria Martinez—stayed during the entire “Stuff-A-Bus” charity drive.

Ms. Dubois said that the team decided to collect toys for the needy in order to do something for the Hampton Bays community.

“We all want every child to experience a happy holiday,” she said. “The community has always supported us and we want to give back.”
