The Hampton Bays Union Free School District offers a full range of services for children with disabilities.  The goal of the Office of Student Services is to promote students’ academic, physical and social/emotional growth in a safe, nurturing environment and to allow students an opportunity to develop all facets of their character to the fullest potential.  The Office of Student Services provides a full range of services to all children ages 3 to 21 who have been identified and evaluated in accordance with IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act).  As such, when students have difficulty in school despite attempts at remediation through research-based early intervention services, school personnel or parents can submit a request for an evaluation to the building principal or directly to the Committee on Special Education (CSE).  Parents and early childhood educators who are concerned about a preschooler’s development can submit a request for evaluation to the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE). The evaluation, under CSE or CPSE, will include any procedures, tests, assessments or observations given to determine whether the student has an educational disability and is eligible for special education and/or related services. Recommendations from this evaluation may or may not include classification of the child as a student with a disability.  All students, including those with disabilities, are encouraged to participate in interscholastic programs. Contact your child’s Principal or the Office of Student Services at 723-4700 for information.
