Hampton Bays students’ MLK artwork now on display

MLK artwork. thumbnail255792
A 4-foot portrait created by Hampton Bays High School art students for the East End Arts’ 2024 annual MLK Portrait Project is now on display at the East End Arts School Gallery in Riverhead.

For the fourth annual show, the student-artists paid homage to unsung hero Daisy Gatson Bates, a pivotal figure during desegregation who strategically planned the desegregation strategy for Central High School in 1957. For the portrait, 21 student-artists painted 16 12-by-12-inch panels that were placed together to form the image of Bates.

The painting is being auctioned for student scholarships as part of the art show. Visit the auction here.
