Hampton Bays School District educators were presented with awards on March 18 during SCOPE’s 23rd annual School District Awards Dinner, among whom was Superintendent of Schools Lars Clemensen.

During the event, Clemensen was presented with the National School Development Council’s Cooperative Leadership Award. The award recognizes exemplary efforts to establish cooperative relationships with other educational agencies or study councils while creating educational programs for the nation’s schools.

“I am honored and humbled to receive this award,” said Clemensen, who has served as the Hampton Bays superintendent since 2010 and holds positions including president of the SCOPE Board of Directors and president-elect of the New York State Council of School Superintendents.

Also honored during the evening were teachers Kathy Dayton, Robin Mancuso and Heather Sumwalt. Dayton is a founding art teacher in the middle school Hampton Bays and has served the district for the the past 20 years. She is set to soon retire. Mancuso is a 20-year elementary school teacher, AIS coordinator, team leader and mentor coordinator for the district and Sumwalt is an elementary teacher and founding faculty member of the Hampton Bays Elementary School STEAM Program.

“These teachers are the pride and joy of the district,” said Clemensen. “Their dedication to their students and the district is inspiring and impressive.”
