Hampton Bays names 2024 Valedictorian and Salutatorian

Many years of an impressive and outstanding commitment to academics have paid off for Hampton Bays High School seniors Emily Robinson and Samantha Kraycar, who have been named the Class of 2024 valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively.

Robinson and Kraycar have amassed numerous accomplishments throughout their high school careers. Both are AP Scholars with Distinction and members of the National Honor Society and Science National Honor Society. They have also secured prestigious AP Capstone designations on their diplomas.

The two top seniors were also both involved in their school’s science research program, with Robinson researching how different socioeconomic factors affect cognition in different races and Kraycar researching cancer metastasis.

They have also been involved in their high school’s music program. Robinson, who plays the alto sax, and Kraycar, who plays the trumpet, both perform with their school’s jazz band, pep band and marching band. They also both sing in their school’s chorus and select choir. Robinson is also a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society and Kraycar additionally sings with the chamber choir and is part of the Thespian Society, where she is a member of the stage crew.

When it comes to community service, Robinson and Kraycar are members of Interact Club, through which they have performed numerous hours of service. Kraycar also volunteers through the Leo Club and Key Club and is a volunteer EMT with the Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

When not studying, researching, practicing her music or volunteering, Robinson can be found in the dance studio. She has been dancing since the age of 3 and is skilled in pointe, ballet, tap and modern. Kraycar spends her off time on the softball field. She has been playing the sport since the age of 7.

In the fall, Robinson will be attending Stony Brook University in the prestigious Women in Science and Engineering Honors Program. She plans to pursue a degree in physics. Kraycar has not yet committed to a university, but plans to enter one in the fall on a pre-med track.
