The winter sports season has wrapped up in the Hampton Bays School District with a number of high school athletes earning accolades. The district congratulates the following student-athletes:


Wrestling

Team: Qualified for the 2024 Suffolk County Championship; school record overall season-high average of 70.39; first time since 2020 that Hampton Bays has advanced to the postseason and was the only team on the South Fork to represent competitive cheerleading at this level; placed 4th in the county at the Section XI cheerleading championship

Charlie Garcia ran 35.93 in the 300-meter

Joffre Proano pole vaulted 13'7

4x400-meter relay team: Comprised of Eddy Benenaula, Charlie Garcia, Matthew Papajohn and Joffre Proano; ran 3:36.49

SMR relay team: Comprised of Anthony Arango, Alan Cruz Rojas, Joffre Proano and Cesar Ramos; ran 4:03.80

All-County and Academic All-County: Joffre Proano for the pole vault


Girls Winter Track:

Broke six school records:

Emma Halsey ran 8.64 in 55-meter hurdles and jumped 34’-8.75” in the triple jump

Sofia Galvan ran 5:39.51 in the mile, ran 11:23.44 in the 3,000-meter and ran 2:30.74 in the 800-meter

SMR team: Comprised of Leah Fassino, Sofia Galvan, Emma Halsey and Izzy Ospitale; ran 4:36.75

All-League: Emma Halsey for hurdles and triple jump; Sofia Galvan for the 1,500-meter

All-County and Academic All-County: Emma Halsey for 55-meter hurdles
