Hampton Bays Elementary School second grade students in Krista Savino and Elizabeth Scott’s class have been studying bats while also learning about the difference between fiction and nonfiction stories. Through the unit, students found that bats can fly up to 99 mph and sleep during the daytime. Students also read “Stellaluna” by Janell Cannon, about a fruit bat, and discussed the characters, problems and solutions in the story.
