Hampton Bays Elementary School kindergartners have been enjoying spending time with members of the middle school National Junior Honor Society on Friday afternoons during the spring through a Kindergarten Helpers initiative. Through the program, now in its fifth year, honor society members join in on classroom activities and play games with the kindergarten students. They also help the kindergarten teachers with classroom tasks, such as taking down bulletin boards or preparing classroom materials. NJHS adviser Samantha Gundersen said of the program, “[It] is a great way for the youngest students to see older kids invested in their learning community and for our NJHS members to practice being role models for younger children.”
