Hampton Bays Elementary School honored the anniversary of Sept. 11 with an annual Patriot Day memorial ceremony.

As part of the ceremony, fourth grade students shared original poems and essays reflecting on what it means to be a hero and performed patriotic songs. The program also featured the presentation of a memorial wreath by the Hampton Bays Fire Department, along with remarks from local officials.

This year’s event included a special celebration of the 101st birthday of Sylvia Catena Smith, an active member of the Hampton Bays American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 924.
