In fostering a love of reading among students, Hampton Bays Elementary School is once again hosting its annual “Hampton Bays Reads Together” event during the month of January.

As part of the program, founded by reading specialist Liliana Cacace, students in grades K-4 all read from the same book every day, participate in discussions, and create music and art surrounding the selected book.

This year, students are reading “Lime Pickle Juice on a Cookie” by Julie Sternberg.

“It should be a hit,” said Cacace, who said the school’s library already has the next book from the author for students to read — “Like Carrot Juice on a Cupcake.”

Also, as part of the month’s reading festivities, local authors and illustrators from Long Island Children’s Writers and Illustrators will be on hand at the school’s annual Family Literacy Night on Jan. 21. Authors will be autographing and selling their books.
